Okay, let me start by saying: this session hit me right in the feels. Every once in a while, I have the privilege of photographing something that feels more like a memory than just a session. This was one of those times. Taking maternity photos for my brother and sister-in-law wasn’t just special because they’re my family—it was special because I got to capture this beautiful, life-changing moment in time for them.
I’ve seen their love grow from day one, and now I get to see them step into parenthood. It’s like, how did we get here already?! It’s wild in the best way.
We headed over to Lake St. Clair Metropark for their session, and honestly, it was the perfect setting. We started on the beach at golden hour (aka THE best time for photos, ever). The light was soft, and it was the kind of evening where everything feels just a little bit more magical. The lake stretched out in front of us, and they just soaked in the moment together. There were so many laughs, a couple of sweet glances, and a whole lot of excitement about the little one on the way.
Then, after the beach, we wandered into the nature center, where the willow trees and the trail had the dreamiest vibe. It felt like we were in our own little world—just them, me, and a whole lot of love. It was a perfect place to slow down and let them just be together.
To be honest, I had to stop a couple of times during the shoot just to take it all in. The love, the quiet excitement, and the pure joy of this new chapter. You can’t fake that kind of connection.
I know that when their little girl Juniper looks back on these photos, she’ll see more than just her parents waiting for her. She’ll see the love, the anticipation, and the happiness that surrounded her before she even knew it.
To my brother and sister-in-law: thank you for letting me capture this beautiful moment for you both.
